Outdoor G.I.R.L.S (Girl, Immigrant, Refugee Leadership Series)
Outdoor G.I.R.L.S. is a weekly after school program for immigrant, refugee, and asylee girls. Over the course of the year, participants will connect with each other and experience outdoor and outdoor-related activities, ranging from nature walks to bird watching to rock climbing. No experience is necessary. We provide gear, transportation, instruction, and inspiration.
Outdoor G.I.R.L.S. Program Overview:
A program for refugee and newcomer girls 4th grade and up to build community, make friends and explore the outdoors. We meet every week on campus to do team-building activities focused on 4 topics: healthy minds, healthy bodies, leadership, and connection to the land. Once a month (on Saturday) we go on an all-day excursion. This spring we will be going ice skating (February 5th), hiking (March 5th), and biking (April 2nd), with a family event on May 7th to end the school year.
On Thursdays/Fridays, we stay at the school, do group activities or art projects, or go on field trips locally. This spring we will be going to The Denver Botanical Gardens, The Zoo, and the Sand Creek Greenway park in Aurora, among others.
Each summer we do monthly excursions, the longest being a two nights camping trip that is free and has all gear provided.
